  • University of Minnesota: Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, Director of the China Times Center for Media and Social Studies, Professor Emeritus (2004-present).
  • Chinese University of Hong Kong: Chair Professor of Journalism and Communication (1994-1998).
  • National Chengchi University: Visiting Chair Professor (Spring Semester, 2008), under the auspices of National Science Council.
  • Academic Sinica: Visiting Professor (1986-1987, 1991).
  • City University of Hong Kong: Head, Department of English and Communication (2002-2005), Director, Center for Communication Research (2005 - present)
  • Chinese Communication Association: Founding President (1990-1994).
  • Having lectured in more than 50 universities in the US, UK, PRC, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, Japan, Korea, and Malaysia.
  • Free-lance columnist and media commentator.
 
     
  Research Interests  
  Global communication, political economy of the media, social theories of media studies. His scholarship has straddled both English and Chinese.
